Thank you for your interest in being a Ridgway School District volunteer. Your help is sincerely appreciated.

Ridgway School District policy (IJOC School Volunteers) requires new procedures for volunteers to complete.

Below is a step by step guideline to assist in making this process as seamless as possible.

 *Volunteer Application Process:

1.    Download, print and complete the short Volunteer Application, or you may pick up one from the RSD District Office.

2.    Obtain a complete set of fingerprints.  You will need to pick up a blank fingerprint card from the District Office.  Take the card with you to the Montrose Sheriff's Office. The Montrose Sheriff's Office will charge you $10.00 (cash only). Ask for a receipt. Call ahead to make sure someone is available. Be sure to have either your driver's license or passport with you. Click HERE for more details.

3.    Please submit your completed application form and materials to the District Office. Once the District Office has received your fingerprint card and fee, we will submit your fingerprints to CBI/FBI.

  • Please see Notice To Applicants
  • The District Office will process the background check once you submit your application and fee of $39.50.   Please make your check payable to "Ridgway Schools" and write Volunteer background check in the memo.

*This process will be changing soon per state requirements. Please call the district office with additional questions.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What is next after I have turned in all the required materials?

A: Your application will be processed by the District Office.  First, we will make sure your background check has been submitted. Once we receive the results of your background check from Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, an administrator will review your entire application. After your application has been reviewed, we will notify you as to whether you have been approved. This process can take anywhere from two weeks to two months, depending on CBI's caseload.

Q: How do I know when I can begin to volunteer?

A: Once your application is approved, you will be notified by email and placed on the Approved Volunteer List. Again, this process can take anywhere from three weeks to three months once all materials have been received by the District Office.

Q: How are the results from background checks assessed?

Q: How long do fingerprints take to process?

A: The fingerprints can take anywhere from two weeks or longer to process, depending on CBI's caseload.  Therefore, once you decide to volunteer, please submit the required material to the District Office in a timely manner.

Q: Should I submit my fingerprint card myself?

A: No, the District Office will submit your fingerprint card for you. After your prints have been taken, bring the card to the District Office. The District Office will then finish filling out the fingerprint card and will mail it to CBI for processing.
