The inaugural Ridgway Festival of Miles, our first community event on the new track, was a great success! Forty-three participants came to run their fastest mile, from second graders racing on a track for the first time to parents and community members returning to the lanes after many years. Perhaps the best display of community spirit came when members of the high school and middle school cross country teams stepped in to pace and encourage all the runners, including our Athletic Director Shawnn Row, MS Social Studies teacher Mr. Cassidy, and Cross Country Coach Peterson.
More than $400 was raised to support the maintenance fund for the Cimarron Athletic Field. Thank you to our students, families, staff, and community members for your support in bringing this event to life. What a wonderful way to celebrate our new track and the region it serves.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our local businesses whose generosity made our prizes possible, including Greenwood's, Taco Del Gnar, Kate's Place, Eatery 66, RIGS Fly Shop & Guide Service, O'Toys in Ouray, Café Ridgway a la Mode, and Chloe's Charcuterie & Wine.
Special thanks to organizers Leslie Chang, Trevor Peterson, Shawnn Row, and Peter Hessler for making the event possible.
